The skit was done by a comedy troupe called the Dead Alewives, and someone originally made this 8-bit theater video for it, which is where I first heard it a loooong time ago.
I had a few month Dungeons and Dragons stint. The newest edition is really easy to just jump into, but the older stuff (that most of the hardcore D&D fans are into) is supposed to be much more difficult to figure out.
I learned just by playing it with a group, I am not sure if it is really possible to figure it out without actually playing it, since a lot of dungeons and dragons is just completely ridiculous awkward RP between people (as seen in the video).
Video games have kind of spoiled me though... It was a little slow for my tastes.
I recommend watching the podcast of the Robot Chicken writers playing D&D, which is DMed by a WotC employee. It has people who've never played before just jumping right into it. There's a lot to watch (plus a DM commentary track on the same YouTube account!), but I thought it was pretty entertaining the whole way through.

I know I've heard this somewhere before, but I can't think of where. It was a fun watch though. Really liked it! x3
