ReplyDeleteThis economist called ponies shallow and pathetic!
You know what to do! Shower him with love and kindness to change his solid heart!
That's enough out of you.
ReplyDeleteI think it was more calling other blogs, ones that offer mainstream subjects, shallow and pathetic and agreeing with the guy who compared ED to his site in narrow subject matter. He wasn't trying to insult us.
>hm this is interesting
ReplyDelete>alright.. a bit odd...
>oh man.. i cant read this anymo-
>thats fucking adorable
and then i read all of it and it was quite good
Hoooly crap that was awesome.
ReplyDeletewhere is this pony refrence?
ReplyDeleteAmazingly written. I enjoyed every second of it.
ReplyDeleteI loved how you made the in-game characters reflect the ponies, especially Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy.
"I want to be friends with them" made me roll over laughing.
I WAS ABOUT TO WRITE THIS EXACT THING.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good thing you did such a Celestiadamn good job or I'd have had to show you up. Or something. The medieval prose bits in between the character sections worked really well and they were very well-written. Good show.
I am slightly confused by the ending- is Spike continuing the story, or is it really happening?
ReplyDeleteIf that's the case, then is the gray pony Derpy?
@bubsAKAverminthey did say that derpy stopped showing up. meybe it got to her head?
ReplyDeleteDerpy found some dungeons under Ponyville and thought they were more fun than the game.
ReplyDeleteThis falls somewhere between "mind alteringly crazy" and "transcendentally brilliant"... and leaning strongly toward the latter. The characterization, the diction, and the transitions are all expertly timed and executed for maximum lolitude, which is a very official writing term that I did not at all make up just now.
ReplyDeleteI read and then I giggled and I did not stop. Absolutely wonderful.
The "Violent pink" ork description had me laugh so hard a had to put my head between my knees to catch my breath. I am not being hyperbolic.
ReplyDeleteAaaaaagh this story was so cute! And so in-character too! I'll have to check out more stories by this writer!
ReplyDeleteSpike seems like a terrible DM. YOU ARE NOT FOLLOWING MY PLOT? CURSE CURSE CURSE.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteMaybe a bit, yeah, but then it wasn't so much them not following the plot, as it was Dash being an asshat and attacking a divine being who was going to help the party for no reason other than to show how awesomely strong her character was.
Nearly every DM has had to deal with that kind of player at some point in their gaming careers, and it gets old and annoying pretty fast (totally speaking from experience, by the way).
I'm not going to put my idea, because people might get the factions wrong, at least with how I see them.
ReplyDelete<.<
>.>
thinks of Rainbow Dash yelling WAAAAAAGGGHHHHH! while winning a battle with epic mechs and red painted vehicles "red makes yah go fastah".
Ever since I saw that pic, I was waiting for such a story. I'm glad we finally got one that was so funny.
ReplyDelete...The ending scares me. I could see a Grimdark spin-off coming from it.
ReplyDeleteOh, by the by, are you continuing this? It is quite good.
That was really funny, and you really made the ponies stay in-character.
ReplyDeleteAnd I can really see Rarity decorating the figures if they were actually playing xD.
Good job !
This made me laugh, but the reference to James Egbert at the end killed me. Good show.
ReplyDeleteJust read it. Enjoyed it. Something about the way Rarity speaks (when she's being herself, not her D&D character) strikes me as odd in the sense that I can't quite imagine her saying that. Specifically
ReplyDelete"'Oh, I felt the same way as you at first, darling.' she said, 'But it can become rather addictive. Especially when Spike showed me all of the adorable little figures you can decorate!'"
I mean as far as meaning, it's perfect, but something about the word choice seems off to me. Sorry I can't be any more helpful than that.
I quite simply enjoyed it.
Holy crap, comments! This got a way bigger reaction than either of my other stories combined. Guess I know what pushes your buttons now, huh?
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
I'm glad someone got that reference! Mazes and Monsters is almost (rightfully) forgotten by now, so I was afraid that would fly over people's heads.
Retl, I agree that Rarity is a bit off in her dialog- I have a really hard time writing for her for some reason. Maybe because I don't know anyone like her in real life? I probably won't be doing a solo Rarity story any time soon...
Glad to hear people enjoyed it. I don't plan on doing a continuation or follow up, but I'll let you guys know if that changes.

ReplyDeleteThis needs a sequel, NOW! Awesome story!
ReplyDelete@Bronyboy
ReplyDelete"D&D Ponies 2: Electric Scootaloo"
Epic Shiiii-!
ReplyDeleteGo forth and continue Derpy's epic quest!
some friends of mine were playing D&D and they managed to kill and then loot the corpse of the guy who was setup to tell them where to go. Last I heard they were wandering around the port, looking for women and getting drunk in bars...
ReplyDeleteOh man, I'm a fa/tg/uy by trade, and this story was great. The ogre wearing a muumuu because of Rarity had me in stitches, along with Fluttershy wanting to befriend all the monsters (Mr. Jiggly, oh man, classic). Applejack's feeble ye olde English was good too. And Rainbow Dash was the group's THAT GUY. Excellent.
ReplyDeleteAwesome story. I'm still wrapping my head around how the hell someone could tame a mindflayer, but if anyone could do it it would be Fluttershy.
ReplyDeleteRarity deffinately needs a bag of holding and Applejack made a perfect kill all very nice.
Wasn't expecting a Mazes and Monsters reference.
Oh, poor Spike, they are constantly ruining the dungeons. I bet they were 'this' close to him declaring, "Rocks fall, everyone dies."
ReplyDeleteI lol'd at the Conan reference at the end with Derpy.
Wow, nobody has explained the end, it looks like.
ReplyDeleteIt was one of the more infamous D&D related deaths, some guy (who was already mentally unstable) was involved with playing D&D in the steam sewers under some town or something. He wound up having a really thin barrier between reality and fantasy, and either killed himself or tried to go on a rampage and was killed. Either way, he dead.
SOMEBODY GO SAVE DERPY FROM HERSELF!
>Electric Scootaloo
ReplyDeleteI LOL'D SO HARD
The second part is amazing. Loved all the alternate titles, and all the little meta references, especially secret butt fun!
ReplyDeletePoor Twilight and Fluttershy, first time DMing is never easy.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see how Rainbow handles the adventure next time, haha.
I love you so much, Lucres. This owns and I can't even give constructive criticism for it because it is perfect.
ReplyDeleteAnd for what it's worth, it's pretty hard to impress me.
This was just as good as the first part! Lookin' forward to more! Thank you for sharing this story with us!
ReplyDeleteXD I can't wait to see Dash DM.
>mfw secret, but fun!
ReplyDeleteThis is brilliant. I can't wait for the third chapter. So much excelent write-friending going on.
ReplyDeleteI've only read the first part (since it's so late) and had to supress a fit of laughter when I realized Pinkie Pie was the bard. Can't wait to read part 2 tomorrow~
ReplyDelete~*KA*~
The kids playing D&D was just adorable... I think I would have preferred if their universe's D&D had allowed them to be ponies, and gryphons, and dragons, etc... perhaps having humans and dwarves as the bad guys!
ReplyDeleteBut really, it SO reminds me of playing D&D with lil' kids. They really are so precocious with their plans and ideas.
I need to know what Derpy did. I need it. Please write more.
ReplyDelete@Bramble Rose
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think it would be more logical for a Pony D&D game to let them play as races of Ponies and perhaps Gryphons (Mature Dragons would be too big/powerful), rather then Humanoids.
Thanks once again to everyone who commented. I'm consistently amazed and delighted by the reaction this goofy little story is getting, and I'll keep working hard to make future acts live up to your expectations.
ReplyDeleteFor the record, I know it's totally illogical that ponies would play a game as humans, but really, where's the fun in logic? I liked having Scoots point out how weird it all is.
I'd also like to mention that I really enjoy hanging out in the comments bar in Google Docs and talking to readers, even if we don't necessarily talk about the story. I don't mention that I do that in the /co/ post, to try to avoid attracting trolls, but I plan on doing it after each chapter is posted. It reminds me of when we livechat during the episodes, and I get a kick out of hearing from you guys.
Okay, back to work. This sucker isn't even half done yet, and it ain't writin' itself.
“Yeah!” Scootaloo joined in, “Secret, but fun!”
ReplyDeleteOh, you!
This is hilarious stuff! Please keep it up... it's wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading the second part as a printed copy in bed last night and I had a good smile before bed. So coming back to say HEY NICE JOB and then seeing it bumped and having a new third part is kinda awesome.
ReplyDeleteNow to download and print this one!
OH GOD THE MEMES
ReplyDelete>Bad enough dudes
>CSI
AAAAHHH
Hope they/you read the '100 things Pinkie Pie is not allowed to do in D&D anymore' list.
ReplyDeleteBetter yet, I hope they/you DIDN'T.
Brilliant. Take an internet and keep on doing what you're doing, good sir.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed that some of these updates (like this one) don't seem to post to Twitter. Any idea why that is?
ReplyDelete“Secret, but fun!”
ReplyDeleteI c what u did thar!
I liked the first part I hope after the "sequel" is finished there is some sort of return to the "old" campaign. Pinkie Pies enterence in the second document (I not sure which part read it in one sitting.) was epic a great way for the character to appear with dramatic effect - and then forget about it because it is Pinkie Pie. ^_^
ReplyDeleteOh no. XD After seeing how Pt. 6 leads in to what's coming up, I'm a little afraid to see how it ends. But I can't just stop reading it. It's too good.
ReplyDeleteI can already tell that part 7 will be my favorite!
ReplyDeleteGeez, Dash, never have your DMPC overshadow the characters like that! Twilight would probably be an okay DM if she had some time to prepare. I actually liked Rarity's style, and Pinkie's games would be fun.
ReplyDeleteThoroughly entertaining...
ReplyDelete“Blimps don’t count.” said Sweetie Belle, not taking her eyes off the airship, “They’re too cool!”
This bit in particular drew a laugh... probably more due to my other internet hangout where Airships have become something of a meme.
Gentlemen, Derpy Hooves is up in this bitch!
ReplyDeleteAaaaaahh!
This just keeps getting better and better! I can't wait for the next update!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely hilarious. I'm eagerly awaiting the final installment.
ReplyDeleteThe execution of this idea is just excellent. I never would have read this if it wasn't for the star rating system and all the comments, but I'm really glad I did!
ReplyDeleteI don't know where the whole Japanese idea came from (Japonese? :D ) but it really did work well for Rarity. But Pinkie... best DM ever!
Hah! That was great. Just like a real episode. Well done.
ReplyDeleteDouble negative.
ReplyDeletejust saiyan
YES!!!
ReplyDeleteAll this is missing is a Pinkie Pie D&D related song. That was a most glorious read.
ReplyDelete~*KA*~
I'm assuming Lucky would be banned from the game. He'd be rolling 20's left and right.
ReplyDeleteAnd an awesome ending to wrap it up! Sweeeeet. This whole "updating to the front of the site" system works very, very well for catching the finales of great stories. <3
ReplyDeleteI read it and laughed. It was a good and very funny fic.
ReplyDelete(I wish I could play a campaign with Rarity as my DM.)
Whew, glad to have that finished. I only meant to do a few paragraphs for each DM, but it just kept on growing. Not sure if I'll end up doing another sequel eventually, since I feel like I've sort of exhausted this premise, but I felt that way after the first one too, so who knows. I think I'll have to give nerdponies a break and write about something else for a while. Maybe I'll take some requests or something.
ReplyDeleteCupcakesNom, I got the idea for Rarity's bit from reading a bunch of Usagi Yojimbo comics and thinking, hey, Rarity might be into this. There's a bit of Okami in there too.
Anon, I agree that a song would be cool, but I'm not much of a songsmith. Feel free to write your own, that would rule. Art would be awesome, too, but I feel weird about making artfriend requests based on my own work.
Thanks again for the great comments. I keep acting all embarrassed when people complement me, but really, it's kept me going while I wrote this. I never could have made this as EPIC without knowing people were into it so much.
Oh yeah, and don't forget to click on "End" at the end of Act 7 for a bonus act!
ReplyDeleteIt's a secret, so only tell everybody, okay?
Wow, that was a great ending.
ReplyDeleteHonestly you have the characters perfect. I can imagine them all as being "That DM" in each of their cases.
ReplyDeletePinkie's actually reminded me of my groups campaigns. Abandon all seriousness for the sake of entertainment.
Damn you and your secret endings. I want to see a Luna/Gilda/Trixie game now.
ReplyDeleteThis is really well written, I applaud the author. I shall continue reading it later on.
ReplyDeleteThis is really well made. Thanks for sharing it with the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteI believe this deserves mentioning.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsCHIKTRYRk
ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY WALK INTO THE POST OFFICE
ReplyDeleteThe best part about this story?
ReplyDeleteDMs are actually like this.
I...I think I'm probably something like Pinkie Pie, with just a little bit of Fluttershy as well. ._.
...And I really want to be a part of that airship crew.
I GM like Pinkie and I play like Rainbow Dash. What does it say about me D:
ReplyDeleteFor anyone who knows the game this was masterfully written. Everything was familiar, everything was hilarious. Gosh darn it, I need a D&D group again.
ReplyDeleteI want Rarity as a DM!
ReplyDeleteI don't usually read fanfics, but for some reason I decided to check this one out. Ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting and enjoyed every minute of it.
ReplyDeleteEpic.
ReplyDeletetotally epic and so nerdy and respectful and well done. My respects.
I loved the fact that you managed to put one of the most embarrasing and mean spirit event in the history of TableTop gaming and transformed it, in a very few sentences in a deep, meningful and plain Heartwarming event
Funny and charming story with a great ending. I have never played D&D but I still found this to be an enjoyable read.
ReplyDeleteLoved it
ReplyDeletePoor Rarity, she just needs to start playing Legend of the Five Rings.
ReplyDeleteThis is the best fanfic ever. You know why? "You can't just let Mr. Jiggly starve!" I had a pet slime once in game. ;_; Memories.
ReplyDeleteI was laughing for real through all of this. I even applauded Applejack's natural 20. I love Rarity's reason for getting involved in playing. You mesh all their personalities into their characters so bloody well, it's beautiful. That's the only word to describe this. Bravo, 6 stars at least, looking forward to part 2!
I have no words for the awesomeness that is in this fan fic.
ReplyDeleteAltough i wonder what would happen if they all played monopoly... *grabs pencil* Lets do this *sharpens pencil*
who else knew that Hasbro owned the rights to the monster manual :O
ReplyDeleteJust read part 2 today.
ReplyDeleteThis is probably THE BEST fic I have ever read. I'm sure I've said that before, BUT THIS TIME IT'S FOR REAL I SWEAR.
The crossovers! The references! The memes! The in-jokes! Exploring friendship through the tropes of an RPG! Actually topping the first story! I am in awe, seriously. And I can't figure out if Rainbow Dash or Pinkie Pie is best DM.
@Paul
ReplyDeleteGo to Dakkadakka.com and check out the "Ponies!?" thread. You'll like it.
That picture... they're only using d6's. How?
ReplyDeleteThis was Beautiful I laughed, I cried laughing then I laughed some more. I have never played D&D so I go a little confused when they started telling the story. However after reading a little more I got the hang of it I really loved the ending.
ReplyDeletePs: I could really use some orange drink right now.
Cleric my ass. Fluttershy is clearly playing a druid. Which makes sense, since druid is the best class.
ReplyDeleteI mean that; I'd like to see another class that can be a one-person adventuring party.
And of course you are aware that 3.5 is the only D&D that matters.
Derpy as a D&D goddess? I... am okay with this!
ReplyDeleteThis seems very interesting, haven't played D&D much myself but I really, REALLY should pick this up and read it ASAP.
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading this fanfic two days ago and I quite enjoyed it. This new update just happened to appear at a really good time. Hurrah!
ReplyDeletereally glad that we are getting another story from the section so big mac used to play with dolls eh could have guessed it after the episode yesterday :D
ReplyDeleteD&D... *twitch*
ReplyDeleteXD This is pretty funny! Keep it up!
ReplyDelete~ Magical Trevor, Minstrel of Equestria
@Hrwking You're not going to believe this, but I had that part written before the show even aired. It's a pretty freaky coincidence.
ReplyDeleteI must say this is reminding me of Friendship is Dragons. Which I linked below in case people want to take a look at it.
ReplyDeletehttp://friendshipisdragons.thecomicseries.com/
That was....amazing!
ReplyDeleteAct 7: Derpy. Got your fourth wall right here.
ReplyDeleteAnd now we see Applejack losing her mind to The Game. Poor AJ!
ReplyDeleteBut I do wonder something: I love these stories, but why would the girls play D&D when, half of the time, their actual real lives are effectively a D&D campaign? I.e., the time with the dragon, Nightmare Moon, the hydra...
I am impressed incredibly, you captured each characters attributes so amazingly into D&D.
ReplyDeleteI love these stories so much
ReplyDeleteNeeds moar nerd ponies
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw that this fic had updated with a new story arc, I got a grin a mile wide on my face. Thank you for continuing.
ReplyDeleteThere is a 'spoony bard' reference.
ReplyDeleteI like this story.
You nearly killed me Lucres! YOU NEARLY KILLED ME! I'm sick with a bad cough, when Fluttershy tossed a screaming zombie skull to Mr. Jiggly, I laughed really hard, which meant I coughed really hard, so hard, that it started a coughing chain, causing me to fall on my knees coughing until I dislodged the mucus in my throat! I NEARLY DIED!
ReplyDeleteBut I would have been worth it ;)
This was great.
ReplyDeleteOMG this is exactly what the real thing is like i love this! XD
ReplyDeletewow this was so dramatically fantastic i seriously loved this especially the end (secret bonus chapter in 2nd story if you click end i feel spike's pain, when you made an awesome campaign but players ruin it, but a good DM needs to learn to compromise he still has a long way to go. Anyways great fic KEEP WRITING FICS! and just wow!!!!! good work!
ReplyDeleteour "spoony bard"? haha...
ReplyDeleteok, now I have to read all of them.
This is the first FIM fic I ever read (nabbed the link off Penny Arcade's forums, even.), and it blew me away.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't avoid thinking The Stranger's lines as if Ian McKellen was reading them.
Most enjoyable! Sounds like something out of one of my group's sessions. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI love how Pinkie Pie's the "spoony bard".
ReplyDelete@falkampft
ReplyDeleteRainbow Dash was the most epic DM ever! It's like... like... like she and Michael Bay should team up to make a movie! Really, she opened the quest with an explosion! How much more 'Bay-ensian' can you get? ;D
Pinkie Pie is best DM.
ReplyDeleteYUS! I am the barbarian in my DnD group, and RD IS THE BARBARIAN IN THIS ONE. I APPROVE!
ReplyDeleteAn epaljeck reference. Cool.
ReplyDeleteSpike's DMing reminds me of why I hate DMing.
ReplyDeleteDerpy's DMing reminds me of why I love DMing.
Man when Derpy or Ditzy Doo or w.e her name is plays DnD... it gets real 0_o
ReplyDeleteawesome story hearing each person try being DM, pinky's and Derpy's stories sounded the best, rarity if she had actually gotten to host it and not over analyze the small details
2 thumbs up =D
I need to make my husband read this. He got me into D&D. I got him into FiM. He must read this.
ReplyDelete@Lucres
ReplyDeleteI love this! It's so delightfully silly and goofy! It's made me crack up in numerous spots!
Also, story 3: Marcus the Ranger.... a little Babylon 5 nod, methinks? ;3
I know I'm late to this story, but I wanted to say as a D&D nerd myself I loved it. I think I'd really enjoy playing in Rarity's campaign, it sounded fantastic. I think one of Pinkie's games would be a lot of fun too, although only as a one-shot. A whole campaign like that would be exhausting.
ReplyDeleteFound and read this story on a whim. I particularly loved the second story, but it's all very good! If Lucres is still following these comments, I must ask, are there any plans to finish the third story? You left me hanging! :P
ReplyDeleteFor everyone following Part 3, I put an explaination here: http://www.fimfiction.net/blog/2209
ReplyDeleteShort version: A combination of finals and a bit of writer's block has put me behind shedule for the next act, but I'm powering through and looking to finish it over the holidays. Thanks for reading!
Good to know Lucres! I look forward to the next part. *brohoof*
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm a bit of a power gamer. In my case it's more "What skills and abilities do I need to best assist my fellow allies," than anything else.
ReplyDeleteI'm keeping tabs on this story and hope .
To see an update one of these days.
ReplyDeletei have really enjoyed these; i laughed out loud multiple times. bravo.
ReplyDeleteZecora as the DM. Just.... really. That's one way to kill someone with anticipation.
ReplyDeleteAwesome chapter is awesome. I'd forgotten how hilarious this story is, thanks for the reminder. :D
ReplyDeleteI still don't det it. A role play? sounds nerdy to me
ReplyDeleteThat's the point, Andmos... Why on equestra would he extra tags contain NEEEEEERRRRDS! if it wasn't nerdy?
ReplyDelete3:2 was great! Keep up the amazing work!
ReplyDeleteThat was great! Derpy character was pretty epic sounding.
ReplyDelete"One does not simply walk to the Post Office" -Derpy
ReplyDeleteEpiclolz
@AnOddRadish
ReplyDeleteBah! Gamers are not nerds! They are GEEKS! Clearly, you are not one of us!
A SPY! A spy, I say!
(cackles to himself as all move to attack the 'spy') Fools... do they not know that the best spies are those who know everything about the side of the enemy? (steals gaming data for his employers... The Jocks!)
Anyway, 3-2 is a continuation of the greatness! How ironic that the ultimate party pony, who loves games so much, is being driven mad trying to keep Applejack from playing a game!
And now, enter Zecora. Truly this will be a great delight, to see how her poetry accents the fight.
Back and bringing the HEAT
ReplyDeleteWas this post reseted or something ?
ReplyDeleteI'm SURE I read parts of this story, yet I don't see comments I would have made ? ...that's odd.
@Nova25
ReplyDeleteYeah, definitely read the 'Part 1' and 'Part 2' stories...
...anyway, I re-read the end of Part-Act7, just to be sure, and... why is The Stranger described as a ''He'' ?
>The Stranger hefted his mailbags as he left the library.
-That's supposed to be Derpy, right ? She's a, well, ''She''... though I guess this is linked to her ''character'' and/or the generic 'masculine' terms for 'The Stranger' ?
@Nova25
ReplyDeleteNot sure if you've noticed yet Nova, but a lot of the role play characters are guys. Twilight, Rainbow Dash and Applejack for one, so it doesn't seem that strange (hehe) for Derpy to be a guy as well.
Fantastic update, I absolutely lost it when Pinkie Pie yelled out asking if everypony in this town is obsessed with D&D :D
ReplyDelete@Nova25
ReplyDeleteI'll take a moment to clarify that part. The idea is that Derpy has started to confuse fantasy and reality. In her inner monologue at the end of 2:7, she is still thinking of herself as her character, hence the italics I usually use to indicate in-game actions. It's kind of a complicated idea that I tried to get across subtly, so I'm sorry if it ended up being confusing. I also made her character male so that I could distinguish between the two personalities via pronouns, though I haven't had to do that very much yet.
As Kangle points out, I made AJ, Dash and Twilight play male characters as well, but for them it was because I thought their personalities leaned more on the tomboyish side, so I wanted to reflect that in their roleplaying choices.
Is it weird that I've thought all this stuff out?
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete@Lucres
ReplyDeleteOh, I must have read the 'Part 1' and 'Part 2' probably a few months ago, just forgot the 'gender' of the ponies' D&d-characters...
...I do say ''probably'', because I don't see any comment that I would most surely have made after reading, yet I remember the general points of the previous 2 stories ? Anyway...
-----
Part 3-Act1 :
>I’ve got nothin’ to do ‘til Winter Wrap Up.
-Aren’t farmers usually also pretty busy during winter ? ...if not just for doing repairs and maintenance stuff.
>“I’d like to be a treant.” said Fluttershy.
-Those are playable monsters now ? ...must be a D&d 4th Ed. thing.
Also... of course she would be a ‘treant’. :3
>“Oh, I know everything about chipmunks!” she said
-She knows that they have high pitched voices and can sing... well, they call it ‘’singing’’, in any case.
>covering what was usually Twilight’s writing desk.
>Pinkie squinted in the dim light of the study as she entered.
-From the beginning, weren’t they already in Twilight’s study ? So, how could Pinky enter there ? (unless this references a room not originally in Twilight’s Library, added for the story... I quickly checked a few pictures, and episodes.)
>Most of the harvest were sealed up airtight and sunk into the lake for long-term storage
-Did they really did that, back in the day ? I mean, mostly about the ‘dumping into the frozen lake’ part.
> He’s a human, too. Gotta love that bonus feat.
-A human... my, how exotic ;). Also, yes, hurray for bonus feat.
>“Make sure you get a ten-foot pole, too.” said Zinnadiana, “We might need to poke some stuff.”
-I once opened the coffin of a vampire spawn with a 10-FT pole... then won the initiative, and got a critical hit on him (as he was *starting* to wake up), killing it before he even had a turn... must have been quite a surprise for him, to wake up like that ;).
Ahh... This had been a great day :).
>“Yes, but Mr. Jiggly is extra smart.” she said with motherly pride
-She’s just missing the monocle on that Gelatinous Cube ;). (oddly enough, I wonder what color ‘It’ is ?)
>He launched himself over the table, barreling into his sister and tackling her to the ground.
-Huhhhh... Eeeenope. Totally *not* Big Mac standard character.
Part 3-Act2 :
ReplyDelete>“Stop that, children!” Rarity said sternly, “You sound like trained seals.”
-Heh, funny... I actually thought of seals too. (almost surprised to not see ‘’seaponies’’ written there... I wonder, if the ‘mythical’ seaponies will be referenced at some point ?)
>“After all, a samurai is just a paladin with an accent, right?”
-*Spit tea furiously* Heee-what ? Feudal Japan must be rolling in its grave right now...
>“How DARE you interrupt me in the middle of my exposition! And you’re kicking up my map as we speak!”
>“Yes, yes, get angry....” said the creature
-That’s quite a silly, yet funny thing to do ;). (I can’t help but picture this like a scene from ‘Homestuck’)
>“Light, I forrow you,” he said, “Just rike in pran.
-The awful accent ! It BUURNNSSssss...! ...like hot sauce in my eyes...
>How about an eyeball thing?” suggested Sweetie Belle.
>Applejack eyed them warily. “Should I be worried?”
-I hope for them that the CMC aren’t talking about a Beholder... it wouldn’t end well for them.
>“Me and Pinkie have been lookin’ for a decent DM. What do you say?”
-Are we really gonna have an ‘’act’’ dedicated to Zecora’s rhyming while a DM ? ...let me guess, next update will be in 4months, I suppose ? (rhyming is hard...)
Am I alone in wondering if AJ will get so obsessed she frees Discord so she can have the ultimate DM?
ReplyDeleteCUTIE MARK CRUSADER DUNGEON MASTERS, YAY!
ReplyDeleteAhem.
Finally reading this... in a marathon session. And loving every moment of it. Pinkie's epic steampunk bard is incredible... and now she has a banjolele! Just like Mr.B the Gentleman Rhymer. XD
Eagerly anticipating future chapters!
On apples and apple-harvesting:
ReplyDeleteI live in a big apple-producing area (Winchester, VA), so I know that the bits about sinking apple barrels into lakes is real, or at least it was before modern refrigeration. Winter is usually the slowest time for orchard owners, though of course that's speaking relatively. I figured AJ is such a workaholic that the sudden slow-down after harvest is irritating to her.
I did cheat a little for Twilight's "study"- I needed a separate room for her and Pinkie's conversation, apart from Spike and the others. The layout of the library seems slightly inconsistent from episode to episode anyway, so I wasn't too bothered with sticking to cannon.
For the record, it felt BAD writing AJ's faux-engrish. I think anyone of Japanese decent now has the right to slap me.
@Lucres
ReplyDeletereally? I laughed as soon as I read Applejack's samurai part XD
Great work btw, i typically don't get this wound-up into fan-fics
Oh man I've lost track of how many lol's I got out of this. One of the best fanfics I've read!
ReplyDeleteMany internets to you sir.
Dat next chapter title...
ReplyDeleteI just read parts 1 and 2 and I think they're brilliant! Very well written and very reminiscent of the D&D sessions I used to have, particularly the wolf taming part :)
ReplyDeletePinkie's scenario was the best and Derpy's character sounds pretty cool. Looking forward to reading part 3 later!
While I'm loving this series, depending on the rule-set used it doesn't make sense for Applejack as a min-maxer to ever be a samurai or paladin. Those 2 classes are just way too underpowered in 3.5 (which is what this seems to be based on)
ReplyDeleteYou just HAD to throw D&D in there, didn't you. I couldn't resist that. This is the first MLP fan-fiction I've ever read. Very well-done! I read it for the first time a few days ago.
ReplyDeleteWhat would be wonderful is if start using 2nd edition rules; I grew up on them.
Ponies + D&D = 20% Cooler!
ReplyDeleteVery fun!
Makes me desperately miss my D&D sessions with my buddies.
Must start a new one....with ponies...
I re-read the chapter with Big Mac and I'm actually rather surprised: Big Mac used to play "Mommy" with AJ's dolls?
ReplyDeleteI mean, come on...
Applejack had dolls as a little filly?
Is Pinkie Pie the new Rorshach?
ReplyDeleteI love the shout-outs to "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" in the latest chapter; and the aboleth was cool. You can never have too may three-eyed eldritch abominations around!
ReplyDeleteAnd Trixie is back? And *she* wants to DM? This can't end well.
Poor, poor Pinkie.
ReplyDeleteThat was fucking amazing reading out loud. I love that rhyming metre.
