I haven't gone out of my way to tell any of my friends, but I haven't been secretive about it either. I leave that general thread open and keep my McPonies in full view on my desk!
First person i told was my gf... she laughed her ass off at it. She was a fan of the original series, but as I started to show her some of the episodes she gradually began to like it as well.
I've showed it to friends and partners, but they don't care. The ones who like the songs and pics, are lazy fucks who won't watch the eps :3 I only converted succesfully an Internet friend.
Darn, didn't get to vote. So far, I led 3 people into FiM, and my family members are baffled that I watch "My Little Pony" at all. I can see WHERE my family is getting the confusion, so maybe I should just show them an episode or three...
No great fuss about it, though my mom finds it strange that I watch and draw them as it "girly" maybe? But she doesn't care. A friend only asked if I have been at a psycologist recently. The other one laughed and even wished me to dream with ponies lol.
Oddly enough, I think it's easier to convert online friends than irl friends, I've converted three online friends, but when I showed it to my other friends in the dorm, they just laughed at the eps and shrugged it off - I think it's more of an alone-type thing to get into the episodes, not really a group activity
I told my mom about it, because she's a huge fan of Scooby Doo and gets as excited about it as a 6-year-old would. So I figured "hey, she likes cartoons, maybe she'll like this one". She acted like I'd suddenly sprouted three heads, and seemed very weirded out by it. Kinda annoyed me; she's allowed to watch kids' cartoons, but I'm not?
I find it's easier to convert online friends to *anything* I like. Face-to-face, people react too snarkily. Could also be that the online-life crowd (I count as one) is more receptive to deviation from the norm.
Everyone I've tried to explain this to online has been met with unmatched criticism. They will not accept that there is a different rendition of My Little Pony out there now that actually could possibly appeal to males. It's absolutely absurd.
Most of my truest friends I met (and know exclusively) online. They're less prone to spaz out over trivial differences. Not that FiM is trivial, but is it really so damning that I much prefer FiM to other "acceptable" series?
According to a few people offline, yes, yes it is. ¬_¬ Okay, then. You can be a fan of those, I'll choose Twilight Sparkle, and we're all cool! Right? Ha...
I doubt anyone is going to see this comment but...
Seriously? I highly doubt this many people have shown and shared the show. If I were to even THINK about showing it to anyone I know IRL (OR anyone I talk to online) I'd lose just about all of my friends.
I mean, yes we know it's a good how but people don't care about that, they care about the name, not the content, and it's My Little Pony.
I'm interested in what KIND of friends you guys have. Are they all like, really nerdy outcast type ones? All of mine are your more traditional, normal, some jock some no dudes.
Offline? I keep my interests to myself. The big deals among 20-somethings in this section of West Virginia are motorcycles, keg parties, and Top 40 hip-hop. I couldn't even attempt to pierce that crowd. Being that I catch endless hell for occasionally wearing an NHL jersey, why bother relating my tastes in TV shows or video games? So, I keep my offline contacts largely professional.
my friends were all like"lol yur gay" and then i made them watch applebuck season cause im bigger than them and they were all"you like applejack? lol yur gay because rainbow dash is the coolest"
I play the newest episode every time I am at my friends house, he will laugh at the jokes but then say he worries about me... My mom says the same thing then I criticize her about watching the murdering crazy person Dexter (it's worse cause we are Christians and shouldn't watch stuff like that) My profile pic on facebook right now is Derpy . ' )
Let's see...my Facebook picture has been ponies, I'm reviewing the show for a college course in journalism which the rest of my class is going to film, and I'd be totally willing to shout loudly and proudly to absolutely anyone that yes, I love this show (and even own some of the toys.) Of course, I am female, so there would automatically be less potential shock or judgment than for a dude, it's true. No one who knows me would be surprised (or was, if I already told them) in the least, though. Hell, I wanna round up five people and do MLP costumes for this Halloween. Or just random cosplay, whatever. x3
I fear nothing. I do my own thing and couldn't care less what anyone else thinks of it...but all the same, once one has been introduced to the magical powers of FiM, there can be no turning back, right? It shouldn't be too hard to spread the love...if we can only convince enough people to just watch an episode and get hooked...;-) Then the ponies shall truly conquer the world....
I started out a little reluctant to show my brony colors, but I've gotten over the secrecy. Rainbow Dash desktop, new doodles ft. ponies (I'm the group artist), stuff like that. I haven't exactly made it public knowledge, but it's a matter of time.

Who needs friends when you have ponies?
ReplyDeleteDamn! I missed this poll.
ReplyDeleteI've mentioned in casual conversation once or twice to my family.
S'no big deal to me, reallym so top option go!
I've led my brother and a few other friends to watch this show. More will learn shortly. Promulgation is magic.
ReplyDeleteI didn't get to vote. but I have told my IRL friends about it no biggie lol.
ReplyDeleteBut what if I enjoy being a cynical misanthropic loner?

ReplyDeleteIt's true.. I have always preferred online friends. I get no end of shit about it from people I know, but they are just more open to weird stuff.

ReplyDeleteIt just depends on what kind of persona you have around your friends.
If you are the nerdy antisocial type yourself, then chances are they will judge you harder.
If you are known for being weird, like my case with the people i know, then its just you being...you.
