ReplyDeleteWow, this was very well written. Even for someone with only the movie and a couple of episodes this was pretty understandable. I greatly appreciate explaining some of the things that came later in the series like the zat gun, kept me from ever being confused.
ReplyDeleteEven though the newer story has taken a turn for the darker I still like it, and I'm usually pretty critical of grimdark style stories. Great characterization and the interaction between the SG-1 team and the various ponies is really good I feel.
I feel sorry for the fans who've been waiting for chapter 4 of incursion, I'm just starting the wait now so a lot easier for me. Glad I found this story and I do hope you don't drop it. I'd really like to see where you are going with this.

ReplyDeleteOk so to all the big stargate fans out there, I've watched the movie and caught bits and peices of SG-1 and I know there are spin offs. So my question is what is worth watching? Should I just do season 1-10 of SG-1 and call it good? Are there seasons worth skipping?

ReplyDeleteI would personally recommend SGA, almost over SG-1. SGU, eh, depends on your style. It's dark, depressing, and entirely of a different feel thatn SGA or SG-1. NEVER watch SGI unless you want something to cringe and mock at.

ReplyDeleteas far as "do I have to watch seasons 1-10?" no ... but if you can you should, much like the Zat gun many things are not re-explained terribly well, and the story arc does run from season 1-8 almost seamlessly!

I'd say a pretty bad plot would have to be if the replicators showed up...again.

ReplyDeleteThis will be an odd place to ask this, but I just noticed that my local public library has the first four seasons of SG-1 available for loan. Which if any are the ones to start with and/ or the best seasons to watch?
ReplyDeleteI guess in theory it would make sense to start with season one so you can understand how it all started. But personally season 2 is where the characters start having the best interactions.

ReplyDeletewell, according to EQD, the last update was on august 23rd 2011. This means that it is soon half a year since the last update. and somehow, i STILL check this story every month now to see whether it is dead or not

I am working on it when I can; unfortunately, that means only a few sentences here and there. Also, I have this really bad tendency to start working, get distracted, look at the clock, and it's 2 months later. Eheh.
ReplyDeleteNearly every day I see more people favoriting SGE on Fanfiction. I'm still kind of shocked every time I see a comment pop up here. I just learned the other day someone made an entire TVTropes page just for SGE. I can't tell you how grateful I am you all haven't given up on the story, and I feel guilty as hell I haven't been able to repay that with actual updates.
I definitely haven't given up on the fic. I'm hoping I can get a chunk of the story done before BronyCon this summer, if not all of it, but like I said, I don't want to make promises.
Getting it done would be downright dandy, it's been a sweet story so far.

I found the pony-jaffa liberation plot of the first story a little dull, but the focus was obviously on how these disparate characters would react to each other, and that's handled well enough to be a lot of fun. Not sure what else Sam could've done, but I felt part 1 also needed more of her. Twilight/Daniel would SO happen. Doctor Whooves FTW.

ReplyDeleteI'd like to put it on Fimfiction. But last time I tried, Fim really did not appreciate the formatting I did for Google Docs and Fanfiction. It will take some work to make sure the fics get ported over properly. Plus at the time I wasn't real impressed with Fim's UI; maybe it's improved since then.
With Pinkie Pie's constant disregard for the Fourth Wall, I'm almost expecting her to make a MacGyver reference with regards to O'Neill.

ReplyDeleteBUT (there's always a "but", isn't there?) I'm really hesitant about starting the second story because it hasn't updated in such a long time (I check the page regularly though).
@Bosstone: If it's writer's block you have, I can only give you one advice: Just write! It doesn't matter, if you thing you're writing utter crap. Just write and then go back to it a few days later and edit. I know from experience that if you keep waiting for that magic inspirational flash, suddenly a year will have passed and you'll think "Why bother now?"

Sooo disappointed that it hasn't been updated recently :( Not a huge MLP fan, but definitely a Stargate fan, and a friend of mine always ends up showing an MLP ep when we go to his place to visit. (He's also a Stargate fan, I sent him the link.) I really feel like you've done a great job nailing Daniel and Jack's voices; I always hear Michael Shanks and RDA when I'm reading their lines in your work. Great stuff!

Me again, I posted maybe ten comments ago. Well, I wanted you to know, Bosstone, that while others had *sohwed* me MLP: FiM before, and I'd seen a few episodes, reading your fic for the first time (as a Stargate fan) got me into My Little Pony. I spent this whole past weekend catching up on it and just read the first story again, with a new appreciation for everyone. You did such a great job with the voices of the MLP cast as well, I could hear them all in my head as I was reading.
ReplyDeleteBig question: how do you see this in your head when you read it? Do you try to visualize the ponies as more realistic when interacting with the humans? Do you make the SG-1 cast into a cartoon to match the MLP art style? I tend to read the SG-1 stuff as live-action, the MLP stuff as animated, and try not to frame them together... though some Roger-Rabbit style blending does happen in my mind ^.^
Also, yay for Derpy, even if she's going by Ditzy in here, probably because of when it was written :P Something I *totally* missed the first time around.
Once again, great job, and thanks again for getting me into My Little Pony.

ReplyDeleteJust reading those words make me happy. When I stumbled upon this fix in August, in my early brony-dom, I fan-girl-squealed and stayed up the entire night reading. Seriously, taking what I want argue was the best sci-fi show and mixing it ponies? GENIUS!
I've waited this long for an update, so I can wait a bit longer. Take your time, and we're all still here! WAITING FOR THE GLORY THAT IS THE MAGNIFICENT FIC!!!!
We're a pretty dedicated set of fans I have to say. That and the quality of this story makes it so worth waiting for!

ReplyDeleteI do, however, prefer to use GoogleDocs for viewing fanfics, if only because FF.net has only one font. Small.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear that the story is finally moving along again. I have this image of Epona listing off all the Goa'uld that SG-1 has killed off. And commenting on whether or not they'll be able to pull off another 'miracle' here.

ReplyDeleteI'm not dead! Well, not technically anyway. It's just one of those things where...well, I'd wanted to get the new chapter out at the beginning of April, then things happened, then suddenly it's the END of April...
ReplyDeleteNevertheless, the fic's not dead yet. I finally got one part of chapter 4 that I'd been banging my head on for months written in a way I'm happy with. Just one more part to write and some cleanup, and it'll be ready.
I feel like I should be handing you guys a novel instead of a single chapter considering how long it's been, but we'll get there.
Thank you so much for commenting again. I can't wait! Ooh, my birthday's coming up, May 7th, maybe it'll release then as a birthday present to me? :P

Yeah, I have an editor. Pretty good one, too. I sometimes wonder why I'm the one thinking up the story after some of his recommendations.
ReplyDeleteHe gave me a list of pretty significant changes for the first half of the chapter in progress, so I have to work those out and then we do the second half. This was a really tough chapter to write the first time around, and it's not any easier now.

Yeah, getting angry at the author isn't cool. He's been keeping us updated, and yes, it HAS been a long time, but just... chill, keep an eye on EQD story updates, and be happy when it does update, not angry when it doesn't.
